The 2020 La Coronela is a Tempranillo from a vineyard in the village of Roa de Duero (on the road to La Horra) in the Ribera del Duero, a head-pruned vineyard owned by Bárbara Requejo's family. They took 1,500 kilos of grapes to Gredos, fermented them with some 15% full clusters and indigenous yeasts and then filled 1,000 bottles of a wine that will be sold without appellation of origin. It matured in used 225- and 500-liter oak barrel for 10 months. It's quite aromatic and complex, and being an old vineyard, there is a field blend of other varieties, even small percentages of white. It has a mixture of fruit, flowers and herbs, subtle and elegant, medium-bodied, with moderate ripeness and with around 14% alcohol, fine tannins and a dry, long and balanced finish. It's clean and the oak is neatly integrated into the wine. An impressive first effort. It was bottled in September 2021. WA
